The Initial Phases

Bryce D. Jewett, Sr. realized a common desire in 1961 and established his own machine shop. In Richmond, Virginia, he constructed a 4000 square foot structure at the intersection of 29th and Maury Streets. His teenage son Bryce, Jr., who went by the moniker "Skillett" (of unknown origin), worked with family members to construct the foundation.

Over the following two decades, Bryce Sr. gained a reputation for producing high-quality goods and treating people fairly, including both clients and staff.

The Following Generation

Even though there have been many changes, the business still operates with the same core values that Bryce, Sr. encouraged in the early years. Growing up in the industry, "Skillett" assumed leadership in 1981.

We have deep foundations in Richmond and more than 40 years of experience in the field. In order to produce high-quality products, our team adheres to the shared concept of developing enduring partnerships with both customers and suppliers.

One of the few global providers of full-service friction welding, NCT can handle all aspects of in-house machining, sourcing, finishing, and weld development in addition to welding design and qualification.

With over 35 years of experience in the friction welding industry, NCT Friction Welding currently has nine machines dedicated to contract welding applications. The Yarder Mfg. Co. was originally founded in the early 1900’s by Stanley Walter Yarder. Stanley got his start pounding out fender-benders in the after market for Model A’s and Model T’s in his very own garage. When the Great Depression hit, Yarder Mfg closed its doors like nearly every other business at the time. But Stanley didn’t sit still for long. In fact he opened shop again the next day! The business operated under the name of S & W Mfg. Co. for a short period before it took over its original name and once again became The Yarder Mfg. Co.
