In the 1980s, Custom Engraving was founded as a home-based enterprise. It was built up to make name tags for military personnel during the time. The proprietor made the decision to grow the company after serving 37 years in the military and retiring. After it was incorporated in 1998, we began producing signage instead of name tags. We placed our first laser order in 2007, relocated it out of the house, and began expanding into several areas.

The Initial Phases

Bryce D. Jewett, Sr. realized a common desire in 1961 and established his own machine shop. In Richmond, Virginia, he constructed a 4000 square foot structure at the intersection of 29th and Maury Streets. His teenage son Bryce, Jr., who went by the moniker "Skillett" (of unknown origin), worked with family members to construct the foundation.

Over the following two decades, Bryce Sr. gained a reputation for producing high-quality goods and treating people fairly, including both clients and staff.

Even though there have been many changes, the business still operates with the same core values that Bryce, Sr. encouraged in the early years. Growing up in the industry, "Skillett" assumed leadership in 1981.
