The Initial Phases

Bryce D. Jewett, Sr. realized a common desire in 1961 and established his own machine shop. In Richmond, Virginia, he constructed a 4000 square foot structure at the intersection of 29th and Maury Streets. His teenage son Bryce, Jr., who went by the moniker "Skillett" (of unknown origin), worked with family members to construct the foundation.

Over the following two decades, Bryce Sr. gained a reputation for producing high-quality goods and treating people fairly, including both clients and staff.

Even though there have been many changes, the business still operates with the same core values that Bryce, Sr. encouraged in the early years. Growing up in the industry, "Skillett" assumed leadership in 1981.

Joseph Colledge, the company's founder, founded Colledge Inc. in 1979. Joseph Colledge has always had a love for manufacturing parts and machinery. He obtained the training necessary to make and repair all kinds of tasks as a manufacturing engineer. With this understanding, he was able to advance and prosper fast while working for different machine shops.

Joseph started to realize that most machine shops were ignoring a better method of doing things. He thought the client deserved better, and it didn't take him long to decide he had to open his own machine shop. Having purchased his first machinery and set up shop in 1979, he soon rose to prominence as the state's industry standard and the go-to guy for quality work.

Eventually, Colledge Machine's facilities were too small.
