Celebrating 60 years in business

In 2017 CP Metal Fabrication celebrated being in business for 60 years. We’re still going strong and the outlook for the future looks good.

The company began its journey as C&P Plumbing and Sheet Metal Works in 1957. The business was started by the late Ron Porter with a silent partner Ray Coogan, a local Bulimba builder who financed the venture. Ray was bought out in the early 1960’s.

In the beginning

The original premises were in a single garage out the back of Ron’s house in Carina. The folder and another large machine were located in the driveway to the house. From time to time Ron would employ a helping hand over the weekend to get work ready for the next week.

In the early 60’s the workshop moved to Taylor Street, Bulimba right beside our premises today.

The business grew rapidly and very quickly a new extension was added to double the size of the premises.

Moving to Carbeen Street

In 1974 we moved into Carbeen Street, our present location. This happened on the weekend before the 1974 floods. With the water rising Ron, my brothers and some of the staff lifted all the machinery on to benches to preventing them going under. We had about 300mm of flood water go through the place, but no damage was caused.

Ron Passed away in March 1981 leaving his son Graham to run the business, a role he’s undertaken ever since. The first few years were bumpy. Graham learned very fast, with loyal staff and direction from his accountants the business began to grow to the size it is today.

Our clients have been many and varied, cotton ginneries, saw mills, furniture makers, boat builders, food processors and many other industries that all call to CP Metal Fabrication for their metal work requirements.

CP Metal Fabrication have a trusted team of workers. The main four have over 110 years of service with the company, with this experience there is nothing that we can’t do. We manufacture from all metals from .55 to 15mm in thickness, and have the machinery to cut, press, punch, drill, weld and finish to your requirements, making CP Metal Fabrication your one stop fabrication shop.
