Capitol Foundry, Inc. was founded in 1963 by L. S. Corr, known throughout the industry as Jim, whose passion and dedication to the foundry business began at the age of 17. Through years of hands-on experience, Jim developed extensive knowledge of both the manufacturing and operational aspects of the industry, building a strong foundation that would later drive the company’s success. In 1964, Jim purchased an existing foundry in Richmond, Virginia, where he began producing municipal castings. While the company successfully manufactured the products it marketed, Jim recognized an opportunity to better serve customers through a more efficient business model. In 1970, he strategically shifted the company’s focus toward distribution, establishing Capitol Foundry of VA., Inc. as a dedicated supplier of high-quality castings sourced from trusted manufacturing partners. After relocating the business and his family to Virginia Beach, Jim initially operated the company from his home, coordinating direct shipments from foundries to customers throughout the region. Through hard work, determination, and an unwavering commitment to excellence, Capitol Foundry steadily expanded its customer base and operations. Supported by dedicated employees and family members, the company grew from a small home-managed business into a five-acre office and warehouse complex serving customers across the Mid-Atlantic states by the time of Jim’s passing in 1999. Today, Capitol Foundry’s legacy continues to reflect the entrepreneurial spirit, customer focus, and industry expertise upon which it was built.
