After spending several years honing his technique in his garage and working a full-time job at a nearby grocery store, L.E. Ross made the initiative to start Dallas Metalsmiths in 1937. This was the beginning of a heritage that would be connected to a number of noteworthy projects, most notably the production of the bronze windows and doors that grace the Hall of State at Texas Fair Park.
In an unrelated story, R.O. In 1930, (Dick) Ross showed incredible foresight and creativity when he created the model for what would eventually become Highland Park's first outdoor shopping mall. Simultaneously, L.E. Ross invented the Instamatic Stair Ride, one of the first versions of a stair lift.
