Established in 1994 by Dennis Smith, DS Machining Services began operations at The Old Forge in Chipping Sodbury, initially sharing premises with a local fabrication business. As demand increased, the company steadily expanded its workforce, machinery, and capabilities to meet a growing and diverse workload. In its early years, DS Machining Services operated as a traditional jobbing shop, with hydraulic ram refurbishment forming a core part of the business—a specialty that continues today. The company quickly built a reputation for reliability, particularly in delivering fast turnaround projects and undertaking complex jobs often declined by others. In 1996, the business welcomed Paul, an experienced engineer from Renishaw, alongside Dianne, who assumed responsibility for administration and sales. As operations grew, the company expanded into CNC machining, starting with its first machine—a Bridgeport knee mill with Boss 7 control. Today, DS Machining Services operates a modern fleet of 13 CNC machines. Continued growth led to relocation from The Old Forge to its current facility, The Engineering Works. Since then, the company has consistently invested in advanced machinery and infrastructure, including the refurbishment and expansion of its premises. While evolving into a substantial component manufacturing operation, DS Machining Services remains committed to its roots, maintaining expertise in plant repair alongside its production capabilities.
