Bullard Haven Technical High School in Bridgeport, Connecticut, is where the company's founder, Michael J. Zahornacky Sr., acquired his machine shop skills. Michael enlisted in the United Army's Air Force division shortly after graduation in the early 1940s and served in Italy during World War II.He was chosen as the head mechanic in a machine shop that serviced US aircraft. Michael returned from Italy and found employment at a number of small job businesses in the
