Johan Schjelderup Marcussen established MANODA in 1947 under the name Marcussens Metallstperi. The company's primary products at first were brass and bronze castings, but eventually machining and aluminium castings gained popularity.

They began manufacturing zinc anodes in the 1980s, and currently the company focuses mostly on making zinc and aluminium anodes.
