The original foundry was constructed on 17th Street, now Hull Street, in Richmond’s historic Old Manchester district. To establish the business, James O’Neil Sr. secured financing from the Merchants and Mechanics Bank of Manchester, carefully documenting the company’s early operations in handwritten ledgers that still exist today. These records reflect the company’s deep history and reveal that James had been producing castings even before the official formation of O.K. Foundry Company, likely from a small workshop behind the family home. In 1956, O.K. Foundry Company was formally incorporated as a Commonwealth of Virginia corporation, further strengthening its position within the foundry industry.
