Schuyler Greenawalt’s life combines a lifelong passion for aviation with a talent for CAD, 3D modeling, and tooling design, leading from early model aircraft building to private piloting, academic study in physics, and entrepreneurial and experimental aircraft work, including pioneering use of T-Splines for complex shapes and ongoing efforts to revive a Vari-Eze. Key Points Early passion for aviation: A third-grade model airplane class sparked a lifelong love of aircraft. Early piloting milestones: Soloed a glider at age 15 and earned a private pilot’s license at 18. Academic foundation: Earned a bachelor’s degree in Physics from Santa Clara University in 1999. CAD and 3D modeling interest: Began self-teaching CAD drafting in 2002 to merge aviation with design. Integration of model aircraft and CNC: Realized that computer-designed parts could be manufactured with a CNC laser cutter.
