Aran and Melissa Fitzgerald created add+it+tech in 2013 while Aran was serving as the managing director of Steg Engineering. Up until 2016, when it was spun out as a separate business entity, it functioned under the direction of Steg Engineering.

When residing in Switzerland, Aran and Melissa had the first concept for add+it+tech. For the multinational corporation Alstom, Aran was a combustion engineer and technical project manager. He participated in a project where 3D metal printing (SLM) was successfully used in a crucial turbine component while working as a technical project manager. The realization that 3D printing in metals is not a fad and will continue to be used in manufacturing came as a lightbulb when I saw the engine components emerge from the engine in tact.
