In 1950, Andrew Mentis (Pty) Ltd was established as a precision engineering company before branching out into the design and production of steel grating.  Andrew Mentis began manufacturing Gripweld grating in South Africa in 1959, and in 1967 he introduced the original Rectagrid grating.  Andrew Mentis (Pty) Ltd has elevated itself to the position of a top grating maker through ongoing research and development.

The company has been successful in expanding into foreign markets, and it has locally supplied huge amounts of high-quality goods to all of the major industries, including steel, food, paper, mining, petrochemicals, motors, and power generation. In addition to grating, the business also sells expanded metal, Mentrail (road guard rails), industrial railing systems, steel floor tiles, and other products.
