Larry Lukis, a successful businessman and computer nerd, founded Protolabs in 1999 with the goal of drastically cutting the time required for producing prototypes made of plastic. His solution consisted of automating the conventional manufacturing process by creating complex software that communicated with a network of machining centers and spray guns. She made it possible to produce metal and plastic parts in a fraction of the time that was previously needed.
In the ten years that followed, we expanded our spraygun capabilities, introduced an express CNC-bearing procedure, and established production facilities in Europe and Japan. We introduced industry-specific 3D printing services to the market in 2014 to help product developers, designers, engineers, and construction professionals along the way from initial prototypes to final products.
