Butch Harrison established Specialty's Our Name, which is now SON Metal Fab, with the help of his family. The company's mission is to provide outstanding craftsmanship while upholding the highest standards of ethics and devotion.

Butch's reputation served as a strong basis for the growth of SON Metal Fab. Utley, Kevin, and Brandon Harrison, his three kids, eventually followed suit to preserve the principles that Butch had established for his business, staff, and customers. While staying true to those values, SON has developed throughout time to suit the shifting demands of the industry by acquiring new tools and technologies. SON Metal Fab is the go-to metal fabrication firm in Richmond, operating as a robust family enterprise.

Christopher Hildebrand, the company's founder, is the dynamic leader of a team with expertise in industrial design, fine art, modern production, and traditional wood and metal crafts. Our identity as a product development company is fundamentally based on the confluence of these trades. We have learned through working with our clients that the best designs come from the tension between bold concepts and efficient ways to make things.

Since 2003, we've been working toward the same objective: to use both conventional and cutting-edge manufacturing techniques to be the flexible and competent resource that our clients require. 

Tektonics belongs to the Richmond neighborhood. We take great pride in being situated in the Manchester district, which has a long history of industry.

The Initial Phases

Bryce D. Jewett, Sr. realized a common desire in 1961 and established his own machine shop. In Richmond, Virginia, he constructed a 4000 square foot structure at the intersection of 29th and Maury Streets. His teenage son Bryce, Jr., who went by the moniker "Skillett" (of unknown origin), worked with family members to construct the foundation.

Over the following two decades, Bryce Sr. gained a reputation for producing high-quality goods and treating people fairly, including both clients and staff.

The Following Generation

Even though there have been many changes, the business still operates with the same core values that Bryce, Sr. encouraged in the early years. Growing up in the industry, "Skillett" assumed leadership in 1981.

We got our start in 1949 as Plastic Products Corporation, a little business that produced hearing aid cables.

We changed course in 1987, changed our name to Plastics One Inc., and relocated to the Southwest County of Roanoke, Virginia, where we are now. We directly collaborate with OEMs worldwide to produce injection-molded goods and connecting cables used in the medical sector. Our target market hasn't changed, but our additive manufacturing focus has grown and allowed us to continue to develop our customer base. All departments are housed in this large facility under one roof, including R&D, Engineering, Toolroom, Production, Sales, Customer Service, Procurement, Accounting, and Marketing, who collaborate to provide the best service possible to our clients.

Rosko Manufacturing presents itself as a customer-focused CNC machining partner with 10 years of experience, emphasizing on-time delivery, continuous improvement, and collaboration. They offer CNC milling and turning, prototyping, and design-for-manufacturability support, highlighting rapid turnaround for short runs and the ability to reverse engineer or work from sketches. They also promote involvement with the Titans of CNC Academy to attract new talent and broaden industry engagement.

AC Tool & Machine Company, Inc. positions itself as a contract manufacturer for OEM and replacement parts in the machine-building sector, specializing in small to moderate production runs and set-up intensive, tight-tolerance work.
